Belfast Aquarium

Ethos designed and obtained planning consent for a state of the art aquarium and digital experience within the emerging masterplan for the  Titanic Quarter of Belfast. Using a steel frame to achieve the large internal open spans and insitu concrete for the main aquarium tank which will be one of the largest of its kind in the UK. The sustainability strategy included heat recovery from the aquaria, salt water sourced and cleaned from the River Lagan.

BELFAST AQUARIUM

The challenge of the design was to create an essentially closed, windowless environment for the climate sensitive aquaria, whilst at the same time offering the active facades and vibrant elevations required by the building’s position in the emerging masterplan for the Titanic Leisure Quarter and its location opposite a listed building.
