CALDERSTONES RESORT
Calderstone's Resort, Edinburgh, will provide a new luxury hillside escape with eco conscious architecture at every turn. 37 new eco-pods will be positioned around a central 62 room hotel hub. The project looks to retain as many trees as possible and to work with the topography to provide level access to the woodland pods spread among the trees. The main hub respects the existing tree line to reduce the visual impact from afar, yet is designed to maximise the views out.
A PART OF THE FOREST
The CLT timber structure of the central hub is built into the hillside with ground floor access on the south side, stepping up to the 4th floor, with level access on the north side. A full woodland escape experience will provide guests with sunken fire pits, wide open glazing and winding woodland trails.
Guests will be able spend time in their pods during the day and have access to the central hub for food, drink and relaxation.
MODERN DAY LIVING
The central hub accommodates restaurants, conference facilities, pools and spa, as well as rooms above. The use of locally sourced cross laminated ‘Scottish’ timber for the structure, will help the local economy as well as the low carbon footprint of the hotel’s construction.
MODERN DAY LIVING
A huge part of this project is the MMC sustainability aspect where PV has been incorporated into the structure to reduce energy reliance of the grid.
